The Army has added about 1.1 million reservists since its enlistment surge began in March, the Department of Defense reported Thursday.
The military is also adding an additional 4,500 reservists to the ranks as it continues to add to the 1.6 million recruits needed to meet its requirements.
The army is the nation’s largest military department, and it has been able to recruit a large number of young men and women through its enlistments program.
That recruiting effort, however, has had its downsides.
The Army’s recruiting efforts have had some difficulties.
For instance, in March the Army lost its top recruiter, retired Col. Robert D. Anderson, who led the Army’s recruitment effort.
It has since hired a new recruiter.
